Plant Design Changes / Modifications

EMS’ experience in mechanical engineering services consists of mechanical/component design functions, equipment sizing, specification writing, development of mechanical standards, BOP experience, system evaluations and upgrades, and development of plant design changes/ modifications.  These skills have been used to assist various utilities to address mechanical equipment reliability issues, reduce refueling outage duration, streamline maintenance activities, and remedy station procedure deficiencies in a cost-effective manner.  EMS can also provide innovative approaches to troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause determination to address performance and functional deficiencies of mechanical equipment.  Examples of specific services EMS has provided are: 

Design change packages, supporting documentation, and calculations for plant systems and components, including:

· Temporary and permanent radiological shielding for process piping systems

· Turbine hydraulic control system enhancements to increase system reliability, facilitate equipment out-of-service and maintenance activities, and to support the plant SCRAM reduction program

· Refueling floor enhancements to accommodate material movement and provide additional lay-down area

· Installation of permanent rigging points for reactor vessel head piping

· Control HVAC system modifications to reduce ambient sound levels

· System studies, including:

- RHR water leg pump system requirements vs. system capability

- Evaluation of RHR shutdown cooling system design operating requirements vs. plant operating procedures
