Specific services EMS has provided include the following:
· Operability Evaluations for overthrusting/ overtorquing
· Weak link analysis justifying continuous operation and/or identify replacement components for improved thrust capability
· Developed special closed form analysis procedure for pins connecting disc to shaft
· Performed detailed 3-D finite element analysis of critical weak link components
· Analyzed post-mortem failure of key/shaft interface
· Achieved stem sensor sensitivity study for Enertech butterfly valves using FEA
· Performed cycle evaluation for weak link components to obtain higher thrust/torque requirements for limited cycle operation
EMS’s overall objective is to eliminate the need for material modifications. This is accomplished by a systematic reduction of the conservatisms inherent in the initial valve capability basis. If a modification is unavoidable, EMS can identify sub-components for replacement versus the entire valve. Using these methods EMS has been able to justify operating until the next scheduled maintenance cycle to reduce the expense of unplanned or extended outages.
